The Intervening Months

Discovered a few jobs that needed quick fixes like the drivers side tank emitted noxious petrol fumes into the boot when it had juice in so ran it dry and didn't put any petrol in it for months, the oil pressure disappeared into nothing one day while out in it and panicked a bit but decided that seeing the oil pressure light hadn't come on it wasn't that disastrous.

I ran the car as much as I could in the next few months and apart from the exhaust note getting progressively louder only had a few niggles to sort. The speedo stopped working and the exhaust was working loose at the join to the inlet manifold because the bolts had rusted through.

Fixed the speedo, it was the 90 degree bend behind the speedo that was loose and a bit of judicious adjustment got it working but it jumped around like a mad thing and any speed less than 60 mph was pure guess work.

The oil pressure came back one day and then went off again and then came back and I narrowed it down to the sender, when trying to source a new one baulked at the price £45 and made my acquaintance with JagCats near me and got a second hand one.

In fact my acquaintance with JagCats saw me go back a couple of times in a few weeks and ended up with a number of spare's

Electronic Speedo from and 83 car and sender, a newer wheel embellisher mine had been in firm contact with some thing hard and had gouges in it. Replacement Oil pressure sender, various bulbs and switches and a working electric aerial, mine had been junked in favour of a manual one which some one had duly bent in half at some time so it didn't retract.

All the new stuff fitted and I was happy again, then noticed that while the speedo worked happily the odometer didn't. So another trip back to JagCats for a replacement, this time I was a bit more careful when clocking it back to the original odometer reading!

The only other concern raising it head was the more I washed it the more I got familiar with the body work and the more I knew about serious areas of concern.

I ran the car until June 2007 when the test ran out and the last trip I did was to John Gordon in Accrington with a long shopping list for replacement parts.
